Add To Game Option vs Save File when downloading from the Sims 3 exchange

Add to Game sends the sims3pack to your launcher in the Downloads tab.
Open Custard. Go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads. Search to find the sims3pack you downloaded (using Add to Game).

Tick Open.
It will show your sims3pack info.

I added a custom cover picture but as you see the only thing showing is the sims3pack. Which shows that third party CC is “glued” to the sims3pack because it appears in the Sub-Type column. When this happens the third party content can not be removed from the sims3pack.This started occurring after Late Night was released. See Crincrits’ Blog Here

* Here you can also untick any unwanted or corrupt third party cc before installing to your game.

To install the sims3pack go to your launcher click on your downloads tab. Find your freshly checked/cleaned sims3pack and tick the box. Tick install. Tick “Ok” on installer window. Now your sim has been added to your game. You should see it in the installed content tab in your launcher.

Save File Option produces Corrupt (Not a DPBF) thumbnails.

For further info on Corrupt (Not a DPBF)go here
Do not install this sims3pack. Unticking the thumbnails is not suggested.

How to get and install Custard:
TUTORIAL: Delphy’s Custard by Crinrict

Apparently, using the Add to Game option is now the way to go when installing sims3packs from the exchange. Be sure to check with Custard before installing to your game.

Unfortunately some sims3packs are automatically installing when using the Add to Game Option. If this happens, do not open your game.  Go to Launcher and see if anything tagged along for the ride under installed items. Checked with Custard and uninstall before opening game if something strange came with it.

Thank you Meresimp for bringing this to my attention.

  1. The newest version appears to be still in testing stages because Delphy hasn’t added it to the first post.

  2. Your tips are spot on! I really appreciate that you took the time to take pictures and investigate this issue.
@Debbi – I am certain if you had read all the way thru you would have realized your error. 🙂

  4. I see now that the only way to add stuff from the exchange is apparently using the “add to game” option. But if i used the Extractor to separate out the sims3packages after using “Save As” would they work?

    • I am not at all sure. I have read that is not advised to remove the corrupt thumbnails from the sims3pack with custard but I am not sure about using the Extractor. I have found that using the add to game option …..the download do not automatically install….normally…..but I had one install. If this happens, do NOT open your game. Use Custard to check in your downloads…. if you see something you don’t want uninstall the sim from your installed content tab…and your downloads.

  5. Thank You sooo much. Some of my most favorite lots were getting the Corrupt (Not a DPBFor contains another DPBF), it was even suggested to me to always save file, not add to game. That didn’t work. She said she used them anyway, and no problems, so I figured it wasn’t my problem either. But my game has been crashing and having problems ever since I installed and placed them. I’ve cleaned, reset, etc. til I’m crazy. I downloaded by adding to game, beautiful, clean, yahoo! Now for the in game test, but couldn’t wait to tell you. It’ll take a while, got to rebuild my world. 🙂
